How To Know What The Will Of God Is For Your Life

I think this is one of the questions that most people ask once they have been saved and will continue to ask the rest of their life. How is it that I can know exactly what the will of God is for MY life? Why am I here?

The reality is, none of us ever completely know everything that God has called us to do. Why? Because God is always leading us into new and exciting things that will challenge us and cause us to be STRETCHED into new levels with God.

I love what the message bible says in Romans 8:

This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike "What's next, Papa?"

God is always leading us into a new adventure with Him. However, there are a few things that you can do, that will help you begin to discover the will of God for your life?

1. SPEND DAILY TIME WITH GOD.

I know this sounds so simple, but you will never fully discover the will of God for your life without the presence of daily prayer. Something happens to us when we get into God's presence. We change from who we are into what God wants us to be, and that is God's ultimate will for us, to be like Christ! You are only as great spiritually as your prayer life.

2. KEEP A WILLING ATTITUDE.

If God told us everything that we are going to be and do, none of us would do it. The reason is the will of God is a process not an event. Knowing the will of God is more of an attitude than a destination. When we keep a willing heart, to do whatever God asks of us, then we will ultimately arrive in a place of power and destiny. Like the prophet Isaiah said, "Here I am...Send Me!" That is the ultimate example of someone who has a willing attitude.

God Is With Us

Those four words changed the course of history and they can change your life today. Nothing in the world is more powerful than these four words...God is with you.

When Jesus was announced by the Angel Gabriel to Mary, the bible says that the Angel said that His name shall be called Immanuel which literally means GOD WITH US! The very nature of Christ and the very essence of what He was called to do is found in this phrase God is with us!

Here are a few points from yesterdays message:

1. Christmas is a time for God to get the glory.

Have you ever asked yourself why Jesus was born the way that He was. He could have been born anytime, anyplace, or he could have appeared out of nothing if He wanted to...but He decided to be born with mangers, angel's singing, wise men from the east, gold, frankinscense, and myrrh...but Why?

Because when God decides to show up, he always shows up in such a way that you HAVE to give Him the glory. Only God could have orchestrated all of this. This is why He deserves our praise.

2. Christmas is a a time for goodwill.

My prayer is that you take time this Christmas to be good to someone who doesn't even deserve it. The reason is because none of us deserved for God to be so good to us by sending His only Son, but He did! In fact, the gift was so powerful that the angels couldn't contain it...they cried...

"Glory to God in the Highest, Peace on Earth, and Goodwill towards Man" (Luke 2)

Be good to someone this week! Have a merry Christmas!

StarBucks Coffee

What is it about this stuff? It has changed culture, changed what we drink, changed what we do for fun (love to go to coffee shops)... All from a cup of coffee. Is it really that simple?

Well, I am not sure if a cup of coffee can change the world, but it sure has changed the way we live. I know that might sound a little rediculous but when you think about it, there is alot of truth to it. Twenty years ago people drank Folgers from home. Now coffee can come in like 100,000 different flavors...and everyone wants some of it.

Here's the deal. It's still coffee. It's just been packaged differently.

Churches could learn something from this. Here is the reality... the Bible hasn't changed since it has been written...but churches need to learn how to repackage it. Coffee is Coffee, and God will always be God...but the way that we package God can make all the difference on whether people will respond to His message or not.

Remember, the Word of God cannot change, but our method of delivering it must change.

Jesus told the disciples to go out and preach the gospel, but He didn't tell us how! The reason is because every generation has to find the most effective way to get the gospel out. Letters used to be effective, then email, now twitter...each from a different generation, but the same result, communication! Likewise, open air meeting were the way, then tent revivals, then mega churches...to now it seems there has been a shift to smaller settings and multiple campuses...but the same result, Jesus!

In what ways are you changing your ways of ministry? Do you feel that methods should change with the times? What do you feel are the current trends in ministry?

The Gift - The Gift of Righteousness

What does it mean to be righteous? Is it conduct or is it a way of living? Is it a fact or something as Christians, that we attain when we are old and have been saved for 50 years?

Well, I think we all need to have a fresh revelation of the GIFT of righteousness. I like to define righteousness this way..."Righteousness is the ability to stand before a holy God, without a sense of guilt or wrongdoing." It literally means to be in "right standing" with God.

Here is what is awesome about Righteousness. The bible calls it the gift of God in Romans 5 and 6! Wow! We are right because of what Jesus did, not by what we do. That is powerful!

Let me give you a few points that we talked about yesterday:

1. Righteousness is a positional truth!

In the bible there are positional truths and there are also conditional truths. Conditional truths are promises that we receive because we meet the condition called for in the promise. Positional truth is who we are "in Christ", and there is nothing that we can do to earn it or deserve it. We can only believe it and receive it. Righteousness is one of these positional truths.

2. Sin loses power when we understand our righteousness.

The bible is very clear that we are to, "Awake unto righteousness, and sin not."
(1 Corinthians 15:34) It doesn't say to stop sinning and you will awake to righteousness. Sadly, so many people don't understand that the way to be right, is to get a revelation that you ARE right, and then you will act right.

In what ways are you going to allow God's righteousness to invade your life?

The Blind Side

Well, let me start by saying that "The Blind Side" is one of the best movies this year. It has a great message and is worth the time to go and see.

Without giving away the movie, let me say that it is centered around someone taking the time to invest in the life of someone who was less fortuante. As I was watching the movie, I couldn't help but think how important it is for us to take time out of ours schedules to minister to someone else.

The New Testament is full of commandments to...honor other people, bless other people, and to prefer them when we would rather do something for ourselves. The bible says that we can overcome evil by doing what is good! That not only pertains to our life, but also to the lives of other people. I believe by doing good for others, we can erase the evil that Satan sent to destroy them.

Remember, people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

What are some ways that we can "reach out" to others? Could you share a success story of reaching out to someone and being good to someone else?

Christmas 2009 at My Father's House

A Thankful Heart

I am reminded after the storm that we endured this past week, how blessed we really are. My wife and I were talking about the fact that we have a warm home, food to eat, and a place to lay our head at night...etc.

I know that it might sound a little cliche', but we have so much to be thankful for. The reality is there are so many people in the world who don't have these things. It's not until you are watching snow come down for hours and shoveling it in the bitter cold...that you realize how blessed we are to have a place to "warm up."

You may have a lot of things going on in your life, but take a few moments and thank God for all that He HAS ALREADY done for you. You may not be where you want to be, but thank God you are not where you used to be.

I think it's time to thank God for the things that we take for granted...

The Gift - The Gift of Salvation

There is nothing like receiving or giving a gift. It's the reason that the Christmas Season exists. To be with family and friends, and to give and receive gifts. Everyone loves to receive a gift, because it is an outward sign of an inward feeling.

We give gifts to the people that we love. Likewise, Jesus gave a gift that was unlike any other in the history of the world. He gave His life. WOW! To be able to say that someone loved you enough to give you His life....well if that's not love, I don't know what is.

As we learned yesterday, Salvation is a gift! You can't earn it and you didn't deserve it, but God gave it to you anyway as a gift. Here are a couple things you need to know about the gift.

1. A gift is something that the giver decides to give.

No one can tell the giver of the gift who He can and cannot give it to. Neither can they say that the gift is to much or to little. Only the giver can decide these things. Well, praise the Lord, God decided to give His only Son (John 3:16) to justify those who would have faith in Christ. No matter whether "we" think someone should be saved or not is irrelevant...only God gets to choose that!

2. A gift is given and not taken back.

When someone gives a gift, and then they take it back, we would say that person doesn't have integrity. Why? Because it is against the purpose of the giver to give something and then take it back...I mean just don't give it begin with. Well, so many Christians think that God is in the habit of taking their salvation from them. Sorry, but it ain't happenin'. God is integrity, so what has given is given! Hallelujah!
